To contact Char Novack, ph (916) 791-8946 or email cnovack@ovschool.org.
Char Novack was born in Berkeley, California and lived in the Oakland area for about 6 years. She then moved to Southern California where she lived for 10 years before moving to Hawaii with her foster parents. While in Hawaii she attended Hawaiian Mission Academy, in Honolulu, for her junior and senior years.
The two years spent in Hawaii were very enjoyable as there were outings to the beach with family and friends, picnics, surfing, and snorkeling. Char was benefit chairperson for the class her senior year and spent hours planning and organizing a benefit program to raise money for the senior class graduation in June, 1964.
Her college years were spent at Pacific Union College from 1964 to 1969. During those years Char was involved as an officer in the Modern Language Club, the Hawaiian Club, and the Girls' Club. The most challenging, but fun time, was her semester as the Girls' Club president. During those years she also worked at Pinecrest Camp for two summers. Char received her B.A. at P.U.C. in 1969 with a Social Science Major and a Library Science Minor. At the same college she completed a Masters Degree in Elementary Education in the summer of 1973.

Char and Ray Copithorne were married, August 8, 1972, at the Hillcrest Seventh-day Adventist Church in Bakersfield, California. Char had taught 6th grade for two years at Bakersfield Adventist Academy Elementary School. Her first year of teaching she taught 33 sixth graders! It was a busy, but fun, year.
For one year Char and Ray lived in Angwin, California, where Ray finished his B.A. degree in chemistry and Char taught 6th grade and 7th & 8th grade english.

Two of the years that Ray attended Loma Linda School of Dentistry, Char taught 5th & 6th grades at the Yucaipa SDA School. Both children were born at the Loma Linda Adventist Hospital; Michael Raymond Copithorne, August 12, 1974, and Cheryl Marie Copithorne, April 29, 1976.
After Ray's graduation from dental school, the family moved to Puerto Rico, where Ray began a dental clinic for the SDA Conference. As a result of the six years living in Puerto Rico, the family is fairly fluent in Spanish.
The family lived in Redding, California for nine enjoyable years and was involved with home-schooling and Pathfinders. The last two years there, Char taught Spanish part time at American Christian Academy and at Redding Adventist Academy.

Char began teaching 5th & 6th grades at Orangevale Seventh-day Adventist School in the fall of 1993 and is currently teaching 4th grade. Char is pleased and feels blessed to be part of the school staff and a member of the Orangevale Seventh-day Adventist Church family.
Char's interests include nature study, hiking, backpacking, snowboarding, wakeboarding, sailing, sports, gardening, cooking, Spanish, mission trips, guitar, ukulele, music, reading, Pathfinders, and young people. She also enjoys rock climbing, kayaking, and 'jeeping'.

After being a widow for 2.5 years, Char married Rick Novack, September 22, 2002 during an outdoor Hawaiian wedding theme. The couple live in Granite Bay and are Pathfinder Area Coordinators for the Northern California Conference. Rick and Char enjoy getting out in God's great outdoors with family and friends.
